Community Outreach Since its beginnings in the 1860s, Scripture Union (SU) organisations across the world have run missions to provide fun activities for children and their families, and to tell people about God.
SU Qld runs more than 30 missions each year throughout the state.
In recent years, missions - each led by a director and run by a team of volunteers - have evolved to run during special events, in rural sectors and to support local churches, as well as to provide holiday fun.
Beach missions Beach missions are traditionally held during the Christmas/New Year break along the Queensland coastline.
Most beach missions run for 7-10 days, providing families holidaying in the area with entertainment for children and meaningful times for all families to think about the promises of Jesus.
Bush missions Bush missions also generally run during school holiday periods throughout the year in remote and regional areas of Queensland.
Recent developments include the Ton of Fun weekends, where mission teams visit rural communities and help introduce children and families to local church activities.
Urban missions Urban missions are run throughout Brisbane, and provide activities and ministry opportunities for children and families in suburban settings.
These missions are particularly valuable ways for local churches to get involved in meeting the needs of their local communities.
Festival missions Through festival missions, hand-picked teams spend time at popular annual festivals around south-east Queensland - including the youth-focused Livid Festival and the popular Woodford Folk Festival.
